As a board member and/or supporter of International City Theatre, Long Beach Symphony, Musical Theatre West, Ronald McDonald House, MOLAA, Assistance League of Long Beach, LB Public Library Foundation, I realize how important the POLB funding is, especially during these unusual times. I do hope you will fund these organizations at their requested amounts. Thank you for your consideration.
As a member of the Board of Directors of the Arts Council for Long Beach, we appreciate the support of the Harbor Commission. The POLB funding has allowed us to pivot to address the needs of our arts community and modify programming during this health crisis. Local arts organizations and nonprofits represent the fabric of our diverse community, and the needs are great. I encourage you to fully fund the requests made.
As a Long Beach Public Library Foundation Board member, I would like to thank the Harbor Commission for your ongoing generosity. This year has been especially challenging for L.B. nonprofits. And, the Library Foundation has seen a 53% drop in donations. The Port of Long Beach’s support as a headlining sponsor of our year-long 25th anniversary celebration would help us fund programs crucial to families, students, job seekers and more who need the Library’s resources now more than ever.
As Treasurer of the Arts Council for Long Beach. I recognize that pandemic conditions have significantly hindered the ability of the City's arts and culture orgs to effectively serve the community. I acknowledge and appreciate past resource support provided by the Port. As we pivot and recover from COVID 19, consistent support from the Port remains essential towards arts and culture sustainability especially in a pandemic environment. I agree and support Commissioner Weisman's recommendations.
As ED of an arts organization, I know the terrific blow all non profit arts organizations in Long Beach have been dealt with the current pandemic. For us, 75% of our income is earned income from ticket sales. With live performances no longer an option for us, we must exist on contributed revenue and grants.. I wholeheartedly recommend the use of the entire budget for community sponsorships that Commissioner Weissman has proposed .
