22. HD-23-601 Modify the Community Sponsorship Program, as well as the advertising and ticket purchasing policies to reflect effective January 1, 2025, the Port of Long Beach, will no longer support sponsorships events or programs that include fireworks. (Commission - S. Weissman)
Please support this agenda item that advocates for a change to clean fireworks IAW the Port Green Policy. Drone shows and light shows provide an alternative source of entertainment that has none of the downside of traditional fireworks and utilizes technology to add the additional dimension of music and sound effects. I advocate for this policy to be put in place in 2024 rather than pushing it out to 2025. Comment by Corliss Lee Eastside Voice Long Beach.
Fireworks are harmful to wildlife, humans, and our water and air quality. Please vote to end financial support for the annual Big Bang on the Bay and other fireworks shows. Please amend this resolution to start January 2024.
Firework displays negatively impact our health and our delicate ecosystems. Sponsorship of such shows undermines the Green Port Policy through allocating sponsorship money to contribute to the pollution of coastal air and water. Thank you.
Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation strongly urges the commission to no longer support sponsorship events or programs that include fireworks. Fireworks have been shown to cause adverse impacts to water and air quality, causing toxic pollution and debris. The visual and auditory displays also cause harm to animals and humans. Sponsorship of such shows undermines the Green Port Policy through allocating sponsorship money to contribute to the pollution of coastal air and water. Thank you.
